Joon was discharged from the hospital today and went back to her place in Thoiry, near Geneva. She will have to stay close to the hospital as she will need to come to the post-transplant outpatient unit often for continued care. She will have appointments three times per week in the initial period after discharge from the hospital, for regular reviews of her blood levels and medication status. She will also go there for her photopheresis therapy which will continue for several weeks. This treatment is used to stimulate an immune response in her body to fight the development or progression of the Graft versus Host Desease (GvHD).

Joon will continue to be at risk for infection and complications for months after transplant. She will not be allowed to go to public places for quite a while. Also it will take time for her to recover, rebuild her physical strength and regain independence. Nevertheless, her mind is full of projects of all kinds. J+40 – Joon rentre à la maison !

Joon est sortie de l’hôpital aujourd’hui et a retrouvé son appartement à Thoiry, près de Genève avec ses parents. Elle devra rester à proximité de l’hôpital, car elle aura besoin de venir souvent en ambulatoire à l’unité post-greffe  pour des soins continus. Elle aura des consultations et des examens trois fois par semaine pendant la période initiale après la sortie de l’hôpital, pour vérifier ses résultats sanguins et ajuster ses doses de médicament.

Elle doit aussi s’y rendre pour sa thérapie de photophérèse qui doit continuer pendant plusieurs semaines. Ce traitement est utilisé pour stimuler une réponse immunitaire de son organisme afin de lutter contre le développement ou la progression des réactions du greffon contre hôte (GvH). Il s’agit d’une technique relativement récente qui  repose sur un prélèvement de lymphocytes (type de globules blancs intervenant dans les phénomènes immunologiques). Ces cellules sont mélangées dans un appareil avec un médicament photosensibilisant, puis exposées à un rayonnement ultra-violet et ensuite réinjectées.

Le système immunitaire peut prendre de 6 à 12 mois ou plus à se rétablir selon les cas. Joon va toujours être potentiellement sujette à des risques d’infection et de complications durant cette période. En outre, il lui faudra aussi du temps pour récupérer, améliorer sa force physique et retrouver son autonomie. Néanmoins, elle a plein de projets en tête. Ngày thứ 40+ : Joon được về nhà !

Hôm nay Joon đã rời bệnh viện để về với bố mẹ của em lại Thoiry, một đô thị ở gần Genève. Joon vẫn cần phải ở gần bệnh viện để điều trị ngoại trú tại khoa sau cấy ghép. Trong thời gian tới, các kết quả máu của Joon sẽ được kiểm tra 3 lần một tuần. Trên cơ sở đó, bệnh viện sẽ điều chỉnh các loại thuốc cho Joon nếu cần thiết. Joon cũng sẽ tiếp tục được điều trị theo phương pháp ánh trị để kích thích hệ thống miễn dịch trong cơ thể em chống lại sự phát triển của phản ứng “Loại thải sau cấy ghép” (GvHD).

Trong thời gian một vài tháng sau cấy ghép, Joon vẫn tiếp tục phải đối mặt với  nguy cơ bị nhiễm khuẩn cao cũng như những biến chứng khác. Joon sẽ không thể đến những nơi công cộng trong thời gian này. Mặc dù cô bé còn cần thêm một thời gian nữa để phục hồi sức khoẻ và trở thành một con người độc lập như trước đây, tuy nhiên trong đầu Joon, rất nhiều dự án đã hình thành.
